(n). Well Completions. Abbreviation for inflow control device, a passive component installed as part of a well completion to help optimize production by equalizing reservoir inflow along the length of the wellbore. Multiple inflow control devices can be installed along the reservoir section of the completion, with each device employing a specific setting to partially choke flow. The resulting arrangement can be used to delay water or gas breakthrough by reducing annular velocity across a selected interval such as the heel of a horizontal well. ICDs are frequently used with sand screens on openhole completions
