Geiger-Mueller Counter 1
Geiger-Mueller Counter 1 : Radiation and Radiological Disasters. (Nucl Phys) A radiation detection and measuring instrument consisting of a gas-filled tube containing electrically charged electrodes. When ionizing radiation passes through the tube, ions are produced, and a short, intense pulse of current jumps from the negative to the positive electrode. The number of pulses per second indicates the intensity of radiation. Also called: Geiger Counter. Note: Named after its inventors, Hans Geiger and W. Mueller
