Explosion Proof (or Flame Proof)
Explosion Proof (or Flame Proof) : Electrical equipment or apparatus is defined and certified as explosion proof or flameproof when enclosed in a case which is capable of withstanding an explosion of a flammable hydrocarbon vapour/air mixture, or other specified flammable vapour, which may occur within it and of preventing the ignition of hydrocarbon or other specified vapour surrounding the enclosure by sparks, flashes or explosions of the vapour within. It must operate at such an external temperature that a surrounding flammable atmosphere will not be ignited thereby. (IOTTSG)
