Equilibrium, Static : When a body is at rest, all the forces acting on it balance one another; it is then said to be in equilibrium. If it is subject to a small displacement which raises its centre of gravity the equilibrium is said to be stable, whereas if a small displacement lowers the centre of gravity equilibrium is said to be unstable
