Ballistic Projectiles
Ballistic Projectiles : A collective term for fragmental volcanic products (tephra) of diverse shapes greater than 64 mm in size. Such projectiles can exit the volcanic vent at speeds of tens to hundreds of meters per second on trajectories that are little affected by the eruption dynamics or the prevailing wind direction; thus, they are typically restricted to within 5 km of vents.
