Skewness 3 : Departure from symmetry. In statistics, the coefficient of skewness yl of a random variable or of a probabdity distribution is defined as yx: p3/cr3, where /z3 is the third moment about the mean and cr is the standard deviation. Where yx > 0 the typical curve tails off toward the right and hence is said to be skewed to the right; when yx < 0 the longer tail is on the left, and the curve is said to be skewed to the left
